Eastside Neighbors Coalition – A Stellar Effort

In 2013, owners and residents near Maria Drive in East Petaluma organized to oppose a high density apartment complex, which would include a Petaluma General Plan amendment to change zoning and allowed residential density on a property with a longstanding one-story medical office building complex surrounded by a parking lot, trees and bordered by Washington Creek. The Eastside Neighbors Coalition members’ comments and written statements at public hearings were thoughtful and well researched. Legal assistance the group was able to utilize within their budget was also well stated regarding California Environmental Quality Act impacts. Unfortunately, in the end, the Petaluma City Council approved the development proposal for a high density apartment complex with zoning/General Plan amendment, with minor changes in building heights and some aesthetic components. The Eastside Neighbors Coalition was not in a position to be able further oppose via the necessary next step legal venue to protect their rights as residents and citizens of the area.

Paula Lane Action Network was pleased to be the fiscal sponsor of Eastside Neighbors Coalition during their highly stressful and sincere effort. We appreciate all who supported ENC with donations.
